Designing this Website
I’m sure if you’ve started keeping an eye on this website you’ve noticed that it is a HUGE WIP (Work In Progress). In a past life I was a civil engineer (I retired 5 years ago) and when people hear that they assume that I’m a techie. Well – I’m not. My brother is, so I am not. I never had to figure things out on the computer because he did it for me. Which is super nice. But now, my brother has a life of his own and I don’t want to put all the things I want done to my website on him (although he is going to transfer my blogposts over for me this week sometime – thank you Brian – you’re the best and ps. I picked out the fabrics for your quilt last night!). So, it’s time for me to put on my techie pants and figure this out.
***I also don’t want to forget to mention my friend Julie who has been a HUGE help with my craftyapple website and my orchard website. She didn’t even get mad at me when I accidently deleted the CraftyApple website she made me (oops). Not only does she have a cattle farm, three kids a full time job BUT her family is starting a new Corn Maze this year. I don’t think I need to add any more work to her plate right now either. ***
I bought three books to get started – ‘WordPress for Dummies’, ‘Teach Yourself VISUALLY WordPress’ from Janet Majure, and ‘Using WordPress’ by tris hussey. So far my favorite is the Teach Yourself VISUALLY book. The color pictures really do help! I also have enlisted the help of a friend and fellow quilting Ebony Love who has a fabulous WordPress website/Blog – LoveBugStudios to help me when I get stuck. So far she’s been extremely helpful!
Please bear (or bare?) with me as this site progresses. If you get on her and all of a sudden it looks crazy wonky – I promise, I’m in the background frantically trying to fix things the best I can! I’m so used to Blogger that it’s going to take me a bit of time to get used to although I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about WordPress so I’m sure it will all be worth it in the end!
If I discover any tricks or cool things I’ll share them with you here – I’m sure I’m not alone out there…right?
In the meantime, I have switched my etsy shop over it is now: www.PersimonDreams.etsy.com, I’ve created a new facebook page: www.facebook.com/PersimonDreams, I’ve changed my twitter name to www.twitter.com/PersimonDreams, and you can now find me on on Pinterest under PersimonDreams. Thanks again for all your support during this process! Hopefully I’ll get it all straightened out soon!
Oh – and if you have any suggestions of things I NEED to have on my website/blog (and a bit of instructions on how to do it) I’d be happy to take it all in!
