Fabric Dyeing with Quilts by Barb
On Monday, June 18th we hosted the Fabric Dyeing Day run by Quilts by Barb at our Orchard. Over 20 women and children gathered in our front yard to create some truly unique, one of a kind fabrics, scarves and clothing. Diane was the main teacher for the day and taught beginner’s the typical color family rules, the dyeing formula, how to get certain effects, and of course, how to wash out the fabrics when the dyeing process is complete. I hadn’t dyed in quite some time (I would guess about 2 years…) but I did show off some of my ‘skills’ as a fabric ‘tie-er’ so that swirls, triangles, and other fun patterns could be achieved.
It was a fun, relaxed day as it should be when dyeing – but it was HOT and WINDY! The day was scheduled to run until 4 but due to the weather most decided to call it a day and headed home when they had accomplished all that they had come out for. ![]()
I dyed well over 30 yards throughout the day showing different tying and batch techniques. Diane is doing the wash out (my front loader doesn’t like all the strings that comes out of the fabric’s edges during wash out) and I can’t wait to see what everything turns out like! That’s always the best part – the new fabulous, ooak, additions to your stash! I’ll be sure to post some pictures of the reveal!
