Jennifer from Sewhookedhas been an active volunteer for The Linus Connection for over 10 years. She’s made and donated approximately 300 quilts to The Linus Connection since 2002, many of them made from orphan blocks donated by quilters from around the world.
The Linus Connection is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Austin, Texas whose mission is to make and deliver handmade security blankets for children in crisis situations in the Central Texas area. The blankets go to children in hospital emergency rooms, in crisis centers, in foster care, battered women’s shelters, to any child who is in need of a little extra security in their lives.
Contact Jennifer for mailing information at email@example.com or visit The Linus Connection blog to find out other ways you can help.
Just over a week ago I was contacted by Michele of the Quilting Gallery to see if I could help Pat Sloan – the Voice of Quilting out and design a star block for the hop. I was more than happy to help out. Since I am ‘apprenticing’ for Pat Sloan I figured I should probably do an applique block since Pat is so famous for her incredible applique block designs. Because of my lateness into the game I just received my copy of the book and have not had a chance to read it. It’s the next book in my stack though so I’ll keep you posted on what I think.
Starry Night – Free Block Tutorial
I’m sharing with you today the ‘Starry Night’ block that I designed.

There is a Flickr group set up for you to share your completed blocks and you can follow along on Facebook too.
About Between Heaven and Texas
In this luminous prequel to her beloved Cobbled Court Quilts series, New York Times bestselling author Marie Bostwick takes readers into the heart of a small Texas town and the soul of a woman who discovers her destiny there…
Welcome to Too Much–where the women are strong-willed and the men are handsome yet shiftless. Ever since Mary Dell Templeton and her twin sister Lydia Dale were children, their Aunt Velvet has warned them away from local boys. But it’s well known that the females in Mary Dell’s family have two traits in common–superior sewing skills and a fatal weakness for men.
While Lydia Dale grows up petite and pretty, Mary Dell just keeps growing. Tall, smart, and sassy, she is determined to one day turn her love of sewing into a business. Meanwhile, she’ll settle for raising babies with her new husband, Donny. But that dream proves elusive too, until finally, Mary Dell gets the son she always wanted–a child as different as he is wonderful. And as Mary Dell is forced to reconsider what truly matters in her family and her marriage, she begins to piece together a life that, like the colorful quilts she creates, will prove vibrant, rich, and absolutely unforgettable. . .
“This book is wrapped around my heart with all the love, warmth, and beauty of a favorite family quilt. I can’t stop thinking about it! I’m in love with Mary Dell Templeton, and I’m in love with Too Much, Texas.” – Robyn Carr, #1 New York Times Bestselling author
“Brilliant . . . the characters thunder with life right off the page and into your heart in this quintessential story of family, forgiveness, and nobility. I just adored every single page!” — Dorthea Benton Frank, New York Times Bestselling author of “Porch Lights”
“A book that brims with laughter and laser-sharp insight.” – Kristan Higgins, New York Times Bestselling author
Marie Bostwick is the New York Times Bestselling author of eleven books, including the popular Cobbled Court Quilt series of novel. She lives in Connecticut with Brad, her husband of thirty-one years. When not writing or volunteering for her church, she enjoys quilting, gardening, reading, watching movies, spending time with her friends and family, and especially playing with her grandsons. Marie travels extensively, speaking at libraries, bookstores, quilt guilds, and at quilt shows. She has been a featured speaker at the Paducah Quilt Festival and the Houston International Quilt Festival. In 2013, she will be the keynote speaker at Quilt Nebraska.

I had lots of plans of things to do today that got put on hold. This morning I swooped Pip up into my arms…and threw out my back. I’ve never done this before and I hope to never do it again. I’m also hoping that I’ll wake up in the morning and feel all better…we’ll see what happens.
BUT, it doesn’t hurt too much to sit so I can at the very least do some blogging which includes announcing to you all the winner of the ‘Tula Pink’s City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks’!
100 comments were made and some truly amazing sounding meal ideas left and the True Random Number Generator spit out…
Comment 40 as the winner!

My favorite healthy meal is baked chicken with potatoes and carrots. thanks for the chance!
Congrats lynaeve! I’ll be emailing you to get your address! I hope you enjoy this fabulous book as much as I already do!
I don’t know where I’ve been…but I’ve only recently discovered the amazingness of Tula Pink. Seriously! Where have I been? I LOVE her!
I’ve always thought her fabric was great fun – but then Amazon suggested that I might like her book, “Quilts from the House of Tula Pink”. Amazon was right – I loved it! Her style, her method, everything is just the way I like to make my quilts! Once I saw how much I loved it I went looking to see what else Tula (yeah, we’re on a first name basis) had out there. I discovered ‘Tula Pink’s City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks’. Anyone that reads my blog regularly knows that I’m addicted to samplers. I knew right away that I NEEDED this book. The only thing was it was available yet – but I could Pre-Order! And pre-order I did. Last Monday (on my birthday) I got a notice that my book would be shipped and I would get it by Thursday! You can only imagine how excited I was to see that amazon box in my breezeway. I was even more surprised when I opened the box and I not only had one book – I had TWO! I’m not sure how many of you have done this before but this isn’t the first time I’ve accidently gotten two of something I ordered on amazon. I’m sure I added it to my cart, got distracted and added it to my cart again later without paying attention.
Anyway – I’ve flipped through the book and I LOVE it! These blocks are going to be another great way for me to use up my scraps. I really love how there are different suggestions for colors, sashings, etc at the end of the book.
Well – since I don’t believe in accidents I think it was meant to be that I have a GIVEAWAY for my extra copy of Tula Pink’s book Tula Pink’s City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks’.
Not only is it a great book but I recently discovered that Sew Sweetness is hosting a ‘tula pink ‘city sampler’ sew along’.

What types of these can you expect to find on my blog.
Right now I’m on the 5th challenge of the 4th season of Project QUILTING. Project QUILTING is a quilt challenge that is posted every other Su
nday. You are given a week to make a quilt that follows the theme and guideline of the challenge. Many truly amazing quilts have already been created and
finished this year! The latest challenge, ‘Print Publications’ is due this Sunday, March 10th. This is the print publication page I had to be inspired by for the challenge…here’s my progress so far…
I’ll be sharing with you all my creative and thought process behind this piece as well as a FINISHED quilt in just a few days! The reason I LOVE Project QUILTING is because it has inspired me to create quilts that I never imagined I would – and I did them all in just ONE WEEK!
My Favorite Block Quilt Along
Another thing you’ll be seeing on my blog is the ‘My Favorite Block Quilt Along’. During the ‘off weeks’ of Project QUILTING, two new blocks and their tutorials go up from different quilting bloggers. These are my blocks so far! The next block will be posted on Tuesday, March 12th and it’s actually from me. I chose the ‘spool block’ as my favorite block and you’ll find out why when you stop by.
I also post updates on my kiddos – Mercedi, age 6, Capri, age 5, and Persimoni aka ‘Pip’, age 22 months here and there. I’m a stay at home mom for 9 months of the year so they’re a HUGE part of me and my creating. The photo above was taken by Karmen Linder Photography at my apple orchard.
Which brings me to the other thing you’ll hear about fairly often – my family owns and operates an apple orchard, Lapcek’s Orchard, in Poynette, WI. Things get pretty busy around here in the fall but most have enjoyed hearing about this city girl’s life transplanted on a farm.
Of course – there will be other random posts – projects I’m working on – quilting or non, a Sunday Haiku – just for fun, and random pictures of things. I hope you decide to stick around and keep an eye on the fun!
What am I Giving Away on this blog hop? Well – one of these fabulous ‘Project QUILTING Bundles’ over at the Fat Quarter Shop that was but together for the ‘Tradition Times Three’ Bonus Challenge. ***If you already have the bundle you can choose a friend to send it too to help them join in the fun!

This Giveaway is open to everyone! The giveaway closes on Thursday, March 14th at 5pm PST. Winner will be announced by Saturday, March 16th. If I sound like someone you want to ‘hang out’ with in the land of social networking here are some easy links to ways to keep up with everything going on. You don’t have to follow or like anywhere to be entered in the drawing – just answer the question above…this is just for those who are interested in more!
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to hop along and visit some more fantastic blogs!
Happy Wednesday everyone! I’ve been meaning to get this post up sooner but I just got a new computer yesterday and it came with Windows 8. I have a lot to learn! So…I’m back on my old computer so I can share with you a guest blog from a good friend and incredible sponsor – Chris Daly of DyeCandy.
